WHO IS TOM CARTER?
Tom Carter is a spirit-filled follower of Christ whose faith guides every decision he makes. He believes God has called him to a life of service in law enforcement and to run for Sheriff of Torrance County. Though he knows he is far from perfect, Tom strives daily to live out his calling with humility, courage, and integrity.Family is at the center of Tom’s life. He and his wife Alicia have been married for 18 years, and their partnership is the foundation that keeps him grounded and strong. Together, they are raising their son, Liam, a young man already showing great promise. Tom’s commitment to God and family shapes his convictions and his vision for leadership in Torrance County.Professionally, Tom has served in law enforcement for over 16 years. He began his career in 2009 at the Albuquerque Police Department before finding a home with the Town of Bernalillo Police Department, where he gained invaluable experience as a patrol officer, Field Training Officer, firearms instructor, patrol corporal, and tactical team leader. After a decade of service there, Tom joined the Torrance County Sheriff’s Office, where he reconnected with his passion for law enforcement and serving the people of this county. In 2023, he became a Police Sergeant for the Town of Estancia, and just a year later, he was appointed Chief of Police. There, he has built a strong team, improved resources, and restored pride in the department. His leadership has been marked by accountability, professionalism, and a relentless focus on serving real victims and holding violent offenders accountable.Tom’s vision for the Torrance County Sheriff’s Office is straightforward: equip and support deputies, pursue violent crime aggressively, and build a culture rooted in professionalism, constitutional policing, and community trust. He knows that strong leadership at the top creates strong service on the ground.At the heart of Tom’s campaign is a simple principle: “No excuses. Just service.” He is committed to standing with the people of Torrance County as a Sheriff who leads from the front, protects families, supports deputies, and strengthens the community he proudly calls home.
